Parents see the outputs: the meltdowns, the focus struggles, fine motor difficulties, the child who cannot sit still. What most parents are never told is that those outputs are not the problem to fix. They are signals. Underneath them are foundational body and brain systems that, when supported, change everything. No one explains that connection. That is exactly what this work does.

My work translates applied neuroscience into plain language that parents can actually use. I teach families what their child's nervous system needs, and how movement, sensory input, play, and connection build the foundations underneath regulation, coordination, and learning readiness.

This isn't therapy. It isn't a diagnosis. It's brain-informed parent education that helps you understand what you're seeing and gives you practical tools to support stronger foundations at home.

Offered as movement-based education and coaching, fully insured. Complementary to OT, PT, speech therapy, and school support, not a replacement.

The core framework

Input
The raw signals the brain constantly receives: touch, sound, sight, smell, breath, the sense of where your body is in space (proprioception), signals from your inner ear (vestibular), and your body's internal sense of itself (interoception). There are far more than the five senses most of us learned about.

Interpretation
The brain makes meaning from what it receives. It integrates signals from multiple systems at once, makes predictions, and decides how to respond. This is the step most people never hear about.

Output
What we see on the outside: emotional regulation, attention, focus, coordination, fine motor skills, and behavior. These are not problems to fix. They are the end result of everything happening underneath.

The Story Behind the Work

Kate Hughes is a certified brain-based movement educator and neural performance specialist with advanced training in applied neurology, neurosomatic intelligence, and nervous system education. A mother of four and former public school educational support aide, she spent years finding movement-based ways to support her children's learning long before she had the neuroscience to explain why it worked.

Her path into this work began with her own neurological injury. Through recovery she experienced firsthand the outputs of a struggling nervous system: light and noise sensitivity, motion sickness, unreliable coordination, difficulty with focus and attention. That experience became the lens for everything she now teaches.

Her injury and her years as a mother gave her something most practitioners don't have: a firsthand understanding of what parents are missing. That understanding is too important to sit behind a price tag. These talks are offered free throughout the Berks County area because every family deserves access to this information, not just those who can afford private services.
